We were delighted to hear the latest news about our lovely labradoodle Ava and her new owner, Eleanor, and how the partnership is going so far.
Eleanor and Ava already make a fabulous pair. Eleanor tells us that she loves Ava’s cheekiness and exuberance, and that Ava is also very well behaved and good socially. Eleanor loves taking Ava out to the park with her volunteer helper, Lynda. She also loves to groom and play with Ava. She laughs and adds, “When I come down to her level, I do get smothered in kisses and cuddles though!” In fact, Ava wakes Eleanor up every morning by licking her on the face and bringing her toys to play with!
Eleanor has an eye condition which has sadly left her with only slight light perception. She tells us that having a guide dog has made such a difference to how she feels about going out; “I don’t feel like a visually impaired person, I just feel like I’m going out, me and Ava. People in the street avoid you when you have a white cane, but now they often approach to compliment me on my beautiful dog.” They’re always amazed at how thick Ava’s fur is too!
There are many obstructions on the busy streets where Eleanor lives in London, so having Ava around makes going out much safer for her. Eleanor is really proud of the way Ava can focus on the route and ignore loud distractions and food on the floor as they go.
Well done Ava! It’s lovely to see Ava become so well integrated in Eleanor’s life. The pair already make a wonderful partnership, and we’re so excited to see how it develops for Ava’s final Pupdate in June!
