Varifocal glasses are the obvious and best option for many people from 45 years of age onwards. They allow us to see clearly in the far distance and for close work, along with everything in between. This means we don't need to keep taking our glasses off, as with reading glasses, as we can see everything with just one pair. But there's a few things you need to know in order to be truly successful with varifocals.
Firstly, forget what you’ve heard!
It has been said that varifocals can be hard to get used to. This is not true when care is taken to use the right lens with the right person. There are many millions of happy varifocal wearers the world over. No reason you won’t be the next!
They are not all made equal
In the same way that saying we drive a “motor car” doesn’t tell anyone much about the car we drive, the same is true for varifocal lenses. There are as many varifocal lens types available as there are car makes and it makes a huge difference which type you are using.
One size doesn’t fit all
Your optician should fit the right design of varifocal lens to your glasses. This can only be done after finding out more information about you, such as your lifestyle, any sports or hobbies, your working environment and whether you spend much or little time in front of screens.
Let’s talk about buying suits
When it comes to quality, buying varifocal lenses can be similar to buying a suit. The ultimate is having a suit that is tailor-made to fit you. Works perfectly, but comes at the highest price. Equally, the poorest material and design goes to making the cheapest option. Never the best idea as it will never perform the way you want it to, and it won’t last as long, making it poor value in the long run. The truth is that somewhere in the middle you get the best of both worlds. With varifocals you definitely get what you pay for.
At Jonathan Hall Opticians over 99% of our varifocal wearers are totally successful. We listen to your story and recommend the correct option for you. We then measure you with precision and make your glasses using the latest technology.
