Our Guide Dog Ava's Latest Adventures
Guide Dogs recently took a trip down to Kent to see how the adorable Ava is getting on since moving in with puppy walker, Lynn, and her family a few months ago.
Lynn told them how well Ava had settled in - with the help of lots of other pups to make her feel welcome. Ava was living with three dogs; trainee pups Flesh and Trudy, and Faith a guide dog who boards with Lynn. Faith and Flesh have since moved on from Lynn’s home, but Trudy, a German shepherd, is still staying there. “They are best of friends and they love to play together,” smiled Lynn.
Ava is a very social pup and Lynn often takes her into London. “Last week we went to see ‘Calamity Jane’ at the theatre and it was great fun. Throughout the show, dinner and the train journey, Ava was calm and content” Lynn said. We are so proud of how relaxed and focussed Ava is in social environments!
“I can walk three yards away from Ava and she will stay in her ‘sit’ ‘down’ and ‘stand’ positions that she has learnt at puppy class” smiled Lynn. It is fantastic news that Ava is doing so well with her basic commands. Ava is working on her ‘recall,’ as she does tend to get slightly distracted by other pups; “I have been going out on a long lead with Ava to improve her recall and she is gradually getting better” said Lynn.
“Each week Ava and I pop to the local supermarket and she has great focus in this environment. She will ‘stop’ and ‘sit’ without me having to tell her, and she doesn’t get distracted by the smells,” said Lynn.
We’re all delighted by how well Ava is developing and can’t wait to hear more about her adventures.
